Larry and Carole's Excellent Adventure September 7
We plan a weekly gallery on our excellent retirement adventure This is the first one. After spending approximately 10 days each at Frisco, Leadville, Buena Vista and Salida, we are back in Heaton Bay in Frisco for about 2 weeks. Then on to Campion, Matt's wedding in Loveland, alumni weekend at Campion, then on to Spearfish SD where my old roommate Wally Slattery will take us gold prospecting before our arrival in Salt Lake City for Steve Hands wedding (son of our former neighbor in Littleton). That will be on October 10. More updates later!

While in Leadville I rode my bike on the Mineral Belt Trail, a 12 mile trip starting at 10000 feet and topping out at 10600 feet. It travels around the California Gulch, the location of the old, now abandoned, mines that enriched Leadville around the turn of the century. Riches were in lead and silver, some gold. Guggenheim, Unsinkable Molly Brown, Soapy Smith, Horace Tabor, Doc Holliday, all enriched themselves, or their reputations, along with may others, in Leadville. At one time it had 20,000 inhabitants and who were consuming a thousand kegs of beer every day. Leadville is the highest incorporated city in the USA at 10,200 feet.
