Larry and Carole's Excellent Adventure September 7

We plan a weekly gallery on our excellent retirement adventure This is the first one. After spending approximately 10 days each at Frisco, Leadville, Buena Vista and Salida, we are back in Heaton Bay in Frisco for about 2 weeks. Then on to Campion, Matt's wedding in Loveland, alumni weekend at Campion, then on to Spearfish SD where my old roommate Wally Slattery will take us gold prospecting before our arrival in Salt Lake City for Steve Hands wedding (son of our former neighbor in Littleton). That will be on October 10. More updates later!

  • This camp site at Four Seasons RV in Salida, CO, is one of the best anywhere. There is a rumor that Rainbow and Brown Trout live in this, the Arkansas, river. From my experience of flailing the river with different offerings, it is just a rumor. Fish don't take me seriously.
  • The Arkansas river is a favorite fishing river and rafting river. This is a leisurely part of the river, no white water here. Families often float by with dogs and kids on board.
  • Current picture!
  • Collegiate Range mountain scene SW of Buena Vista, CO. September, 2010.
  • Carole rides her recumbent trike on the trail west of downtown Salida, CO. After taking a tumble on a regular bike and cracking her helmet at Grand Lake, CO several years ago, she opted for this tumble proof (almost) transportation.
  • We think this is Mount Antero, northwest of Salida, from the bike trail west of downtown Salida.
  • White on Black. Geese on lake outside Salida.
  • Busy Hummer!
  • The humming birds often visited the Hollyhock flowers on our camp site.
  • Hummers kept getting in my way as I took pictures of the Hollyhocks.

  • "This guy caught this fish (his guide told me it was a 16" Brown Trout) that was supposed to be mine from a float boat on the Arkansas river in front of our campsite. Fishermen can hire these rafts with guides who steer them down the river while they fish. About $250 each trip.
